So you want to learn how to play Pickleball?
Before you book in for one of our Introductory Pickleball Sessions, get a jump start with the following rules overview:
So where to now?
In the first instance, sign up via OpenSports for an Introductory Pickleball session where you will revisit the rules of the game as shown in the above video. You will also partake in some basic skills like serving, dinking, volleys and drives coupled with some Introductory level gameplay. It is recommended you partake in at least two Introductory sessions to help cement your knowledge and skill base. Paddles are included in the price for these sessions.
Your next step is to participate in a Pickleball Training, Fundamentals & Drills session or two. These sessions will expand on your general gameplay and introduce you to match strategies.
Once you have a basic understanding of the game and you are able to play a match with confidence, it is time for some Novice/All Level Social Play where you will get to play with a range of partners and opposition all while taking your skill level into account. Once you are in this zone, you will be well and truly hooked on the sport, For an added bit of socialising, why not try Friday Night Dinks & Drinks – what’s better than Pickleball? Pickleball with a refreshment :)
If you are then up for more of a challenge, join one of the Intermediate or Advanced sessions. You should strongly consider having a DUPR account by this stage in readiness for more competitive play.
As your skill level progresses, you might like to consider signing up for a Club run League. Gosford Pickleball Club currently has Monday Night Leagues for Intermediate and Advanced Players, and a Wednesday Night Ladies League (two divisions for differing skill levels from competent Novice upwards).
Once you are fully confident with your game and you may have found a partner or two to share your passion, consider signing up for some of the Tournaments that are advertised through a variety of Pickleball sites. Maybe you will represent Gosford Pickleball Club wearing a Club Shirt which will soon be available to purchase from the Pro-Shop.
